Homemade Seasonings

3 DIY Seasonings

Spice up your spice cabinet with DIY Seasonings with spice staples like cumin, chili powder, paprika, oregano and a few spicy and savory others. Three easy to blend DIY seasonings are homemade taco seasoning, a super tasty spicy blend for pork and chicken, and a jerk seasoning that’s great on meat or vegetables.

When you’re making spice blends, I suggest doubling up and storing some for later use. Be sure to label your containers and you’re set to store the mixture in an airtight container for up to three months. When I got started with Clean Eating, one of the first things I did was restock my spice cabinets with the spices that kept coming up in the recipes. These three seasonings use those a lot of the base spices you want to have on hand when preparing healthy meals at home.

Jerk Seasoning

Did you know that it’s called jerk seasoning because of the action of “jerking”, which means poking meat with holes so that flavor can be more easily absorbed. A jerk spice or seasoning is a spice rub. Jerk chicken is a traditional Jamaican food.

This seasoning is smoky, sweet and spicy and is great on chicken and veggies too. Jerk cauliflower is an awesome veggie side dish or as a main meal even. Roasted jerk potatoes are amazing in the air fryer! Mix some jerk seasoning with mayo for a flavorful sandwich spread.
